Sorry for not letting you know about this earlier, but hey, there’s always next year. On the first Saturday in May the world over celebrates Free Comic Book Day. Independent comic and book stores everywhere give away comics. Yep. And it is as awesome as it sounds. Truly.
Well, not entirely. I mean, yeah, you get free comics, all the ones that publishers want you to check out and are willing to give to the stores to hand out. So no, you can’t just go into the store and pillage the X-Men back issues. They frown on that. True story.
The stores do have various sales and bring in guest artists, so that’s pretty cool. And there are some gems in the basically advertisements hidden as comics. Gems if you’re 5 or 3 years old, which my kids are, so they brought home a heaping armful of awesomeness!!
Good times. Thanks to Comics America here in Winnipeg for indulging us as I know their store is really not set up to handle that many people crashing it scrambling for free books.
One other comic book geekiness to get out there, Thor was well worth the movie price, go see it. That Chris Hemsworth guy, hooo-eeee. Ladies, do yourself a favor and Google image search this guy.
Ok folks, head on over to http://floatingislandstudios.bigcartel.com/ where my buddy Nicholas has set up shop. He’s got some great work that builds within you, that is, the more you look at it the more you appreciate his talents and recognize the individual style he has. AND you should definitely check out http://web.anacomics.com/tpanvb/ to see what you’re getting into. Why am I hawking his wares? He’s got good stuff and he said he’d help me deal with a shadow problem I have. True story.

Told you it was a banner week for Death at Your Door. I’ve put together a video of the strips so far, and posted it here for your enjoyment (errors and all). What does this mean? Well as we approach our first year of this strip, I’m pleased to say that I’ve reached almost all my goals for the site and for the cartoon. We hit our first comic con, we’ve SEO’d the snot out of this site, we’ve developed a distinctive look for the site as well as fine tuned the characters look. I’ve also grown a bit as an artist and writer and have met some wonderful people on the way. I couldn’t have asked for a better first year.
Here’s to you, the people who actually read (and comment about) my little strip about the life of Death.
Cheers, from Rod, the grateful creator.

So just mentioning Laura Vandervoort (of Smallville and V fame) and Calgary Comic Con (AKA the Calgary Entertainment Expo as it tries to go more mainstream) in the same post from a few weeks ago garnered me massive amounts of new viewers to this site. Let’s cater to the masses again but this time with images.
You know if she wasn’t Canadian I wouldn’t be pandering to the slobbering fanboy in me, but I’m a weak, weak man. Tis true.

We’re in! Death At Your Door will be joining the ANA Comics crew at the Midwest Comic Book Association spring 2011 con on May 21 and 22, 2011 as a Guest Creator! Hopefully my table’s next to the ANA crew, that would be awesome sauce dipped in coolness covering with BOOYEAH sprinkles. Really looking forward to this one, should be a good time. Click on the logos below to check out details on the con. Attention Minneapolis, Death is on it’s way to you. But in a good way.
