Well, no. But I do have a revenue stream no. Thanks be to this blogger for her tutorial, saved me hours I tell you. Also, there are some great blog posts at that site about social networking (oh, that’s where the hours I saved just went). Ad revenue is one of the monetary streams that webcomics depend on, along with original art sales and schwag sales, that allow for free content for you nice readers. And since I have no schwag yet, nor have I figured out a great way to sell original art (or what to charge for it), Google AdSense seemed a good start.
My martial arts buddies are all in it, you have to go see this trailer. Alex Ferrer is the dude with the sticks. I was an extra in the movie back on a cold January morning, but didn’t make the promo. Here’s hoping you’ll see a bit of me in the movie.
I’m still working on getting good at the software to run this site, so you may find/see some odd things popping up occasionally. Like secret posts that aren’t supposed to be secret but can’t be found anywhere to make them public, dangit. But it’s not keeping me from keeping to my weekly schedule of posting a cartoon for you. And I mean you as in the singular you that’s read and found this so far. I’m going to get all my content in place for the next few months for a weekly Sunday night update, while mastering this software, and then promote the heck out of it. So for those catching on now you’re at ground zero – the deadliest fans of all.
Woohoot! Just got back from Calgary Expo, and had a great time. Besides great company, I got to chat with Chris Claremont (ultra-famous X-Men writer) and Dale Keown (of Pitt fame). Plus many other great people, including the gang from Half-Pixel. Special thanks to Brad Guiger for the realistic words of encouragement and advice. Top it off, he’s a great guy. Head over to his site and appreciate how much work he does for you. I’ll post up some photos tomorrow, I’m beat and need to get to bed. Two days of hard-core geekdom done wore me out.
SO here’s my the starting point. I had to post something, you know, to see if the scanner works and all. And I’ve crossed an important barrier myself in this process: I’ve developed the characters (that’ll be ongoing), have story lines going, built the framework for the overall site, installed all software needed so far, name registration done, scanning process completed (ok, I knew that one was going to be the easiest for me considering my background), and a first comic uploaded. Woohooo!
The plan is to get one a week posted until I get more technical aspects worked out so I can focus just on the writing, drawing, and marketing aspects of the strip. What else do I have to do? How bout design a logo, design the website past the out-of-the-box configuration, add sales for schwag and original art, design schwag, design advertising flyers and design cards. Once that’s done, or close to it, I’ll be ramping up the drawing an writing to more times per week. But once a week to start. Hey, I do have a full-time job and two kids I’ll have you know, sometimes Life will get in the way.
